Soap opera fans were left stunned when Kristian Alfonso announced her exit from Days of Our Lives last week. At first, it wasn't exactly clear why Alfonso had quit. She released a statement in which she said, "it is now time for me to write my next chapter." But now, the 56-year-old is getting more detailed about what prompted her exit.

Kristian Alfonso reveals what led to Days of Our Lives exit

Alfonso revealed what led to the split in an exclusive interview with ET on Thursday. She says that she was propositioned with a storyline that would've required her to leave the show for five months, before returning again in a plot that involved a Navy Seal.

"I was taken aback," she said of the proposed hiatus for her character, "Hope Williams Brady." "It was not something that had ever been discussed but that's what it was. And to come back in five to six months, or four to five months — whatever that time frame was — I just thought, 'You know what? It's time to really write a new chapter'."

Kristian Alfonso says she's truly finished with Days of Our Lives

The actress, who has starred on Days since 1983, revealed that she has no thoughts of a return to the show in any capacity, guest spot or otherwise. "I don't plan on returning and popping in as others have done in the past," she added. "I think that chapter is closed and a new one needs to be started."
