Google has revealed its annual report on the most frequent searches and trends in 2020. To nobody's surprise, in the TV category, the list includes titles such as Tiger King and The Queen's Gambit.

10: 'Locke & Key'

In position no. 10 is Locke & Key, a Netflix adaptation of the comic by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

On the show, young actors Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, and Jackson Robert Scott play a group of brothers who have to move into their mother's mansion—where there might be a demonic presence.

The series will continue its story with a second season that hits the streamer in 2021.

9: 'Outer Banks'

Did you ever hear about Outer Banks?

Among lion breeders, Spanish thieves, and chess queens, some may have overlooked this Netflix youth title in 2020. However, Google's search report says otherwise.

The series inspired by a group of friends looking for treasure in the Atlantic Ocean ranked among the trending searches on Google this year. Outer Banks also managed to carry the success of season 1 into a renewal for a second season.

8: 'The Queen's Gambit'

The Queen's Gambit may very well be the series that's remembered for years to come after 2020.

The miniseries is based on the novel by Walter Tevis and focuses on chess prodigy "Beth Harmon" (Anya Taylor-Joy). It not only ranked among the most-searched TV titles in 2020 and Netflix's top shows, but it also motivated millions to take an interest in chess.

Just a few weeks ago, Google also reported that searches for chess had doubled and that phrases such as "how to play chess" reached a peak of interest higher than results of the past decade. In addition, chessboard sales increased 170%.

7: 'Ozark'

The Netflix crime drama Ozark turned up the heat in season 3, adding to its growing fan base—who were busy searching about the show throughout the year.

The series was again nominated for Outstanding Drama at this year's Emmys, and we're sure it will continue to rack up Emmy nominations and Google searches when Jason Bateman and Laura Linney return for a final two-part season.

6: 'Emily in Paris'

Darren Star, the creator behind hits like Melrose Place, Sex and the City and Younger, scored another success in 2020 with Emily in Paris on Netflix. Fans were captivated with the show's story of young American "Emily" (Lily Collins) who moves to Paris to work for a marketing company.

Interestingly, the series also stood out for its mixed reviews, which in some cases led to waves of fans tuning in to watch the title out of sheer curiosity.

5: 'The Umbrella Academy'

Netflix makes the list yet again with The Umbrella Academy, which aired season 2 this year.

The most recurrent searches about the project starring Elliot Page involved the cast, the season 2 plot, a summary, and even some of the character names: "Klaus", "Ben," and "Diego."

4: 'Cobra Kai'

First premiering as a YouTube original production, Cobra Kai was picked up and released internationally by Netflix—which made it into a widely-seen hit.

The series, which is currently preparing season 3, ranked as one of the five most-searched series in the world during this year.

Not bad for a project that, despite being based on a popular film of the '80s (The Karate Kid), had lived in relative obscurity prior to streaming on Netflix.

3: 'Money Heist'

The Spanish Netflix series Money Heist (La casa de papel) can boast of having taken international audiences by storm. According to Google, millions of people around the world searched for what happened to the group of thieves commanded by "The Professor" before tuning in to the latest season in 2020.

Many searched for the meaning of the mask worn by the thieves, theories about the future of the characters, and the popular song "Bella Ciao," which became a hymn in the strange year that was 2020.

2: 'Big Brother Brasil'

The Brazilian version of Big Brother was massively popular in 2020, coming in the second spot on Google's search report for this year. The reality competition surprisingly topped all streaming shows and other cable programs — except for one infamous 2020 docuseries...
