West Side Story in 2020: What's new in the remake?
The 2020 remake of West Side Story will still tell the same story of gang rivalry and romance. Spielberg's film, however, intends to improve on the original movie's problems with representation - in the 1961 film, some Puerto Rican characters were portrayed by white actors.
"I really wanted to tell that Puerto Rican, Nuyorican experience of basically the migration to this country and the struggle to make a living, and to have children, and to battle against the obstacles of xenophobia and racial prejudice," Spielberg said.
