In 2018, a racist tweet by Roseanne Barr (65) led to her firing from the reboot of Roseanne. Ever since the cancellation, many fans as well as the rest of the cast were in favor of a spin-off - without Roseanne Barr. In October of 2019, the first episode of The Conners premiered on ABC.

Roseanne speaks out on Twitter

The season premiere of The Conners deals with "Roseanne's" death from an opioid overdose. Roseanne Barr responded to her characters death on Twitter in her very own way, while the episode was actually still on the air: "I AIN’T DEAD, BITCHES!!!!"

She later published a statement about The Conners together with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (51): "While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of The Conners, all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the "Roseanne Conner" character” the statement says.

No mercy for "Roseanne"

They also complained that the series had been cancelled at all: "After repeated and heartfelt apologies, the network was unwilling to look past a regrettable mistake, thereby denying the twin American values of both repentance and forgiveness."

Roseanne Barr thinks that the producers should have given her another chance, she even begged the TV station ABC. "The cancellation of Roseanne is an opportunity squandered due in equal parts to fear, hubris, and a refusal to forgive."
