Before we dive into the cast's lives, let us tell you a little bit about the drama's plot. "Jonathan Smith" (Michael Landon) is an angel who, after a string of bad behaviour, gets his angel wings taken away. He is then sent to Earth to serve a type of "angel probation" with his human partner and friend "Mark Gordon" (Victor French).

French played "Mark Gordon" in Highway to Heaven from the show's first episode in 1984 to its last in 1989. Before that, he had starred alongside Landon as "Isaiah Edwards" (1974-1983) on Little House on the Prairie and had also directed a couple of episodes of the popular show. Unfortunately, French died on June 15, 1989 in Los Angeles, California, after a battle with lung cancer. He was just 54...

Michael Landon had already had a pretty successful career before playing "Jonathan Smith" on Highway to Heaven. He had roles in shows like Little House on the Prairie and Bonanza. Sadly, due to his heavy drinking and smoking, he died of pancreatic cancer in 1991 in Malibu, California.
