Nearly ten years after the robbery in Paris, the legal chapter surrounding reality TV star Kim Kardashian has come to a close. A court has awarded the 45-year-old symbolic damages of one euro—exactly the amount she had sought in her civil lawsuit. The robbery of the American businesswoman took place during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. Two perpetrators disguised as police officers broke into her suite, tied her up with zip ties, and made off with jewelry worth more than six million dollars. She was not physically injured but was left in a state of shock.
Kim Kardashian Calls the Robbery Her Worst Experience
Following the ruling, Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, thanked the French judicial system. “It was the most terrifying experience in my life,” Kardashian said, according to the Mirror. A joint statement also noted that the experience was deeply traumatic and continues to affect her to this day.
The court’s decision was not only about compensation, but also about accountability and recognition. Harouche was also present during the robbery and, like Kardashian, had sought only a symbolic amount in damages.
Simone Harouche and the Hotel Will Each Receive Compensation
In addition to Kardashian, the ruling orders further payments. Harouche will receive €50,000. The Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian stayed during Fashion Week, will also receive €50,000. This brings the civil proceedings to a close not only for the most prominent person involved, but also for the other parties in the case.
Following the guilty verdicts in May 2025, the trial had left open the question of how much would be awarded in damages. The court has now ruled on several claims arising from the consequences of the robbery and the police operation that night.
Receptionist Receives About €110,000 After Traumatic Experience
The largest amount awarded will go to the hotel’s former receptionist. He will receive approximately €110,000 after saying that the robbery had severely traumatized him. His claim had been for €550,000. His attorney, Mohand Ouidja, nevertheless described the decision as a victory, according to World.
In May 2025, a Paris court had already found eight defendants guilty and acquitted two others. Seven of those convicted received prison sentences ranging from three to eight years, some of which were suspended in whole or in part. Another defendant was fined.
Perpetrators Scoured Social Media
According to the police investigation, the perpetrators had been tracking the U.S. star’s activities on social media. This apparently allowed them to determine when Kardashian was in Paris. Because of their age, the men were dubbed “les papys braqueurs,” which roughly translates as “grandpa robbers.” Several of them were already over 60 years old at the time.
Because time spent in pretrial detention has already been credited toward their sentences, none of those convicted will have to return to prison following the rulings. With the decision on compensation, the case is now also closed under civil law.
