Princess Kate and Prince William have shared a rare new family photo featuring their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The heartwarming snapshot was taken during Kate's Three Peaks Challenge in June and shared on Instagram to mark Mountain Rescue Awareness Day.
In the photo, the royal family poses alongside local mountain rescue volunteers, offering a rare glimpse into their time together during Kate's summer challenge.
The couple also used the occasion to express their gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who help keep people safe in some of the country's most challenging landscapes.
Prince William and Princess Kate Share a Heartfelt Message
As patron of Mountain Rescue England, Prince William joined Kate in paying tribute to the volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to helping others.
Alongside the family photo, the couple shared a heartfelt message on Instagram:"On Mountain Rescue Awareness Day, we send our heartfelt thanks to all those who volunteer their time and expertise to keep people safe in some of our most beautiful but challenging landscapes."
The royal couple also acknowledged the rescue teams who assist hikers and climbers throughout the year, often working in difficult and unpredictable conditions.
Mountain Rescue Awareness Day coincides with the autumn clock change in the United Kingdom, when daylight hours become shorter. The occasion serves as an important reminder for people heading outdoors to prepare for changing weather, earlier sunsets, and the challenges of the approaching winter season.
Princess Kate completed the Three Peaks Challenge in June
The Princess of Wales completed the Three Peaks Challenge this year to benefit the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The initiative supports the hospital where she received treatment for cancer. The challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales in a single day.
Prince George has spent the past few weeks at boarding school
The new photo appeared shortly after George returned to his family. The 13-year-old had started a new school year in early September at Eton College, a boarding school in Windsor, and had spent the past six weeks there. On Friday, he returned to Forest Lodge in Great Windsor Park for the start of the extended school break, as Mirror reports. According to the school calendar, the break lasts 16 days before classes resume on November 8.
The photo captures a family moment and the royals' summer project
The photo had not been released before and was taken during the mountain hike in June. In it, George, Charlotte, and Louis smile at the camera alongside their parents, surrounded by helpers in outdoor clothing.
We really rarely see the royals looking like they do in this snapshot. Instead of looking formal, the family appears completely relaxed and casual here. While George, Charlotte, and Louis are wearing jeans, T-shirts, and sneakers, Kate is sporting a cool cap and William is wearing a sweater and sneakers as well.
