King Charles has offered royal accommodation to Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and their two children ahead of a possible trip to the United Kingdom next month. According to Today, the offer was made as Harry and Meghan prepare for what would be their first family visit to Britain in several years. The planned return would carry extra weight for the Sussexes, who left royal duties in 2020 and settled in California. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, have had only limited time in Harry’s home country since that move.

Prince Harry and Meghan Plan July UK Visit

The trip, first reported by Britain’s Daily Telegraph, would mark the first time Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet have traveled to the UK together since June 2022. That visit coincided with celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne. Meghan later returned in September 2022 for the late monarch’s funeral, but the full family has not been back since. If the July plans go forward, the visit would reopen a chapter that has remained largely closed since the couple stepped away from royal life.

King Charles Extends Royal Accommodation Offer

The accommodation proposal from Charles adds a notable family dimension to the occasion. USA TODAY reported that the king had offered a royal place to stay for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children, though there had been no response as of June 19. Harry and Meghan have previously been offered rooms at Buckingham Palace during UK visits and chose not to accept. This time, the offer arrives as public attention stays fixed on whether a practical arrangement can help ease a visit shaped by family ties and long-running security concerns.

Security Questions Still Hang Over the Visit

Housing is only one part of the picture. Security for the Sussex family in Britain remains unresolved, and any extra measures would not be decided by the king. Those arrangements fall under the Home Office, which has overseen Harry’s protection status since his royal role changed in 2020. After stepping back from official duties, he lost taxpayer-funded police protection. Harry later challenged that decision in court but lost an appeal last year. The issue has become central to whether he feels able to bring Meghan and their children to Britain.

Prince Harry Explains Why Safety Matters

Harry has spoken plainly about why the matter carries such importance for him. "The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States," Harry said in 2023 according to Today. He added, "I can't put my wife in danger like that." Those comments frame the stakes around the visit: a return tied not just to family reconciliation, but to whether the Sussexes can feel protected on British soil.
