Prince William has offered a fresh glimpse into one of his longest-running passions: motorbikes. During a visit to Norfolk Blood Bikes on Thursday, the Prince of Wales said he still gets on a bike from time to time, though he now does it with much more caution. According to Hello!, the 43-year-old made the comment while meeting volunteers near Anmer Hall, the Norfolk home he shares with Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their children. The outing also put the spotlight on a local service delivering vital medical supplies across the region.
Prince William Says He Still Rides "Quietly"
As he looked over the charity’s fleet of motorcycles and support vehicles, William made a candid admission about his private hobby. "I love bikes," said Prince William according to Hello Magazine. He then added: "I do still ride now and again, quietly". With a nod that suggested he was half-joking but fully aware of the attention he attracts, he also said: "Disguise". The prince’s comments showed that while royal life has changed his routines, it has not ended his enthusiasm for riding altogether.
Norfolk Blood Bikes Receives Royal Support
The visit was also a chance to focus on the work of Norfolk Blood Bikes, a volunteer-led group that transports blood, plasma, breast milk and other urgent medical items. William spent time at Norwich University Hospital learning more about the network and speaking directly with riders. "It’s a crucial part of the community, not many people understand the network," Prince William told Hello!. He praised the volunteers for providing an essential service that often operates out of public view. William and Catherine have also privately funded a Ford Kuga for the fleet, named "Prince William."
Kate Once Admitted the Hobby "Fills Me with Horror"
William’s affection for motorcycles has long been part of his personal life. He passed his motorcycle test in 2002, when he was 19, and in earlier years rode powerful machines including Ducati 1198s. Fatherhood appears to have changed the pace, with the prince previously saying he had toned things down after welcoming Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Catherine has never hidden her concern. During a 2015 visit to Dundee, she said his continued riding "fills me with horror" and added that she was terrified whenever he headed out.
Windsor Travel Has Shifted to an E-Scooter
In more recent years, William has often chosen an e-scooter for short trips around Windsor Castle grounds, a practical option that drew attention after he used one during an appearance with actor Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveler. There, he described it as "quite fun!" Even so, that mode of transport has now hit a limit. New estate rules ban e-scooters and other motorised devices in Windsor Great Park, except for approved vehicles and cyclists. For William, that means another small adjustment in how he gets around royal residences.
