Princess Mette-Marit Received a Donor Lung in Oslo
According to the royal household, the operation was successful."The Crown Princess underwent a successful lung transplant at the National Hospital in Oslo," the palace announced.
For Mette-Marit, this marks an important milestone. After years of living with a chronic lung condition, the procedure offers the possibility of greater stability in daily life and renewed hope for the future.
Mette-Marit Had Been on the Waiting List Since Early June
On June 5, the Royal Court announced that the Crown Princess had been placed on the waiting list for a donor lung. The decision followed medical evaluations and consultations at Rikshospitalet, where she was accompanied by Prince Haakon and daughter Ingrid Alexandra.
Doctors had reportedly determined that, without a transplant, her life expectancy could have been limited to one or two years. Shortly after the announcement, Mette-Marit stepped away from public duties. At the time, the palace stated that no further health updates would be released until after the procedure.
Several Weeks in the Hospital Now Lie Ahead
Following the surgery, the Crown Princess will remain at Rikshospitalet for continued treatment and observation.“Like all newly transplanted patients, the crown princess will remain at the hospital for several weeks to come," said Are Holm in the official statement.
The recovery period will focus on adjusting medication, monitoring for complications, and beginning rehabilitation. Prince Haakon has also shown his support during this critical time. According to reports, he canceled an engagement at the last minute on Tuesday and withdrew from another commitment on Wednesday, highlighting the family's close involvement in her recovery.
