The origin of the song

"Hips Don't Lie" is originally from rapper Wyclef Jean from the 2004 version of "Dance Like This," which was used for the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. The rhythmic base and the lyrics belong to the original, Shakira was in charge of adding her trademark Latin style.
