Adam Levine is a known tattoo enthusiast, but he appeared to step it up this week when he debuted new ink on his face.

While at a gala with his wife Behati Prinsloo, the Maroon 5 frontman was spotted with a black rose tattooed on his temple. People have their opinions on face tattoos, and Levine's was causing an uproar online. But he's now revealed that it was fake.

Adam Levine explains his new face tattoo... is fake

On his Instagram story, Levine shared a new video where he set the record straight. "This message is for my mother. I do not have a tattoo on my face," Levine began, showing the camera both sides of his face.

"Those that know me know that I am too vain. I am too f**king vain to get a tattoo on my face. I'll tattoo the rest of this," he said, gesturing at his neck and torso. Then, pointing at his face, he added: "The rest of this has gotta stay the same."

So, for face tattoo haters and those who weren't into Levine's new look, the singer's reveal will come as a relief.

Here's a look at the ink that was going viral: it was a stylized silhouette of a single-stem rose.

Levine still has plenty of tattoos in the meantime, including several on his neck.
