The Closer premiered on Netflix earlier this month, and his material managed to incense Netflix's own employees who staged a walk out in protest of the streaming platform giving Chappelle a stage in the first place. This week, Chappelle released a video where he asked to have a conversation with members of Netflix who staged the protest, in an attempt to bridge the cultural gap. But they haven't responded yet.

"To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience," Chappelle said. "But you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody's demands. And if you want to meet with me, I'd be more than willing to, but I have some conditions." said Chappelle.

And many in the LGBTQ+ community have both agreed with and supported Dave on social media, despite the backlash they are receiving from within their own community. One of those supporting voices is none other than LGBTQ+ icon Caitlyn Jenner.

Caitlyn Jenner Defends Dave Chappelle Over Controversy

Jenner, who was recently touting a run to become Governor of California, defended Chappelle's right to free speech, and to experiment on stage with his comedy. Despite her status as a progressive icon, Jenner's political views have been rather conservative and consistently so.

She has previously spoken out against gay marriage, which surprised many people, and has defended artists' rights to risk being offensive in the past. This latest tweet has certainly lost her a fan or two, but the opposite is also true. And perhaps, if prominent members within the LGBTQ+ community attempt to build a bridge, then these controversies can become a thing of the past...just not quite yet!
