British-American comedian Bob Hope was born May 29th, 1903 in London. His family immigrated to the United States when he was a young boy, passing through Ellis Island and eventually landing in Cleveland, Ohio.
Bob began performing early on, busking as a child and went on to perform in many vaudeville comedy acts. Once he gained notoriety on Radio in the 30's he landed his first feature film role in The Big Broadcast of 1938.

In the 40's he brilliantly teamed up with smooth singin' Bing Crosby and gorgeous actress Dorothy Lamour for a series of hilarious comedies like Road to Singapore, Road to Zanzibar, Road to Rio, and Road to Hong Kong. Bob and Bing had such a good repertoire and dynamic that they performed together for years in countless stage, radio, and TV performances.
Bob went on to star in major films alongside greats like Katharine Hepburn, Paulette Goddard, and I Love Lucy's Lucille Ball! Between 1939 and 1977 Bob Hope hosted the Academy Awards a whopping 19 times, where he constantly joked about wanting to win an award.
Bob Hope's Giving Legacy
Bob was beloved by the military, as he would incredibly frequently perform USO shows for soldiers abroad in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Lebanon Civil War, the Iran-Iraq War, and the Persian Gulf War. For 50 years Bob was the USO entertainment coordinator, encouraging his high profile friends to perform for the troops. In 1997 Congress even named Bob an "Honorary Veteran" for all his USO work.
