• Hollywood is on the verge of a strike
  • Fran Drescher plays an important role
  • She was criticized for being absent

'The Nanny' star Fran Drescher (65) is an absolute audience favourite. But now she's had to take a lot of heat. Fran is the union president of SAG-AFTRA, a union that represents actors, among others in the film industry. Important negotiations between them and the association of TV and film studios are just about to take place.

Fran Drescher: Too little effort for the good cause?

In the event of a non-agreement, Hollywood's acting stars plan to go on strike. On the evening of July 12th, the union's current contract with the studios expires.

Instead of being on site and participating in the negotiations, Drescher enjoyed a Dolce & Gabbana fashion event in Italy. While there, she was featured in Kim Kardashian's Instagram story.

"That makes a union president look bad, unless the negotiating table has been moved to Italy," series creator Taffy Brodesser-Akner (47) vents on Twitter.

The actors' union SAG-AFTRA defends the 65-year-old and says and to the 'Hollywood Reporter' that Drescher is involved in negotiations "on any given day either on site or via video call".
