‘The Voice’ Star Dylan Carter Dies at 24

Carter became known to a wider audience through his appearance on season 24 of 'The Voice' in 2023. Beyond his music, the St. George–born artist was deeply committed to charitable work, particularly supporting women battling cancer.

According to reports, Carter died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. The Colleton County coroner ruled the death an accident. He was reportedly traveling alone at the time.

The accident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on U.S. Highway 21, when his vehicle left the road, struck a pole and a fence, and overturned. Carter was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a seatbelt.

A Performance That Touched Millions

Carter captured national attention during his 'The Voice' audition, where he performed Whitney Houston’s "I Look to You". His emotional rendition prompted all four coaches—John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire—to turn their chairs. He ultimately chose Reba McEntire as his coach.

The performance carried a deeply personal meaning: Carter dedicated the song to his mother, who had passed away in 2022. Reflecting on that moment, he said, “When I saw ya'll turn around, I saw my mom, she passed back in October. This was the best second chance. I made her so proud.”

"The Local Voice" Recognizes Dylan Carter as the Heart of the Initiative

Away from the stage, Carter was very committed to helping others. Together with fellow campaigners, he founded "The Local Voice", an organization to support women fighting cancer. The loss of his mother motivated him to get involved.

A statement from the initiative reads: "With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community." The organization also paid tribute to him as a central force in its work and announced that it would continue his work in his memory.
