• Elton John has completed the coveted EGOT
  • He was recently awarded an Emmy Award
  • It's all to do with his Disney+ special

The world of glitz and glam is buzzing with the latest showbiz scoop: Sir Elton John, the iconic Rocket Man, has blasted off into the stratosphere of entertainment royalty! At 76, the superstar has snagged an Emmy Award for his electrifying 'Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger’s Stadium', propelling him into the elite EGOT hall of fame. That's right, folks – he's now one of the few to have bagged an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony!

EGOT Excitement Unleashed!

Comedy queen Amy Poehler, while presenting the award, couldn't resist teasing Elton's EGOT-worthy moment, quipping, "Now I can’t speak for Elton but, 'EGOT' to be excited about that." And excited we are! Although Elton couldn't grace the event, his spirit soared high as his producers accepted the award, showering him with love and thanks from the voters.

The producers were starry-eyed on stage, declaring, "We knew this show would be historic because it was going to be Elton’s last ever show in North America on tour. We knew it would be historic because it was Disney’s first ever live global stream," one of the producers said while accepting John’s Emmy onstage.

"We did not know it was gonna be historic because it was going to win a man who has created the soundtrack to all of our lives. He’s done so much great for society — who is all of our heroes. We didn’t know that it was gonna win him an EGOT."

John was recovering from a knee operation and couldn’t attend the show, so producer Ben Winston accepted the award on his behalf. "He’s absolutely fine, but he wanted to send his love and thanks to the Television Academy for this incredible award,” Winston said.

Humbled by the honor

In a heartfelt news release, Elton John, now the 19th EGOT winner, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight. The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world. Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful."

'Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger’s Stadium', a Disney+ sensation, nabbed three Emmy nominations. The special, part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, was not just a concert but a cultural event, with Disney CEO Bob Chapek praising Elton's unmatched impact on music and culture.

John is the 19th person to become an EGOT winner, after Viola Davis became the 18th last year when she won a Grammy. He has won five Grammys (his first was for 1987’s "That’s What Friends Are For"), won an Oscar for best original song in 1994 for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and in 2000, he won a Tony Award for his 'Aida' score.
