• Elton John to have retrospective documentary
  • Never-before-seen footage will be featured
  • John's husband will co-direct the project

Elton John is set to be the subject of a brand-new documentary that follows his final days on the road! As Deadline reports, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances And the Years That Made His Legend will be coming to Disney+, and we've been given some insight into what the film will include.

John's last show to be included in documentary

John's last shows will take place this year and be featured in the documentary, including his last-ever North American gig! While he first announced his farewell tour back in 2018 and planned to wrap it up in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused multiple tour dates to end up being postponed. Now, the singer will officially be taking his final bow after performing at California's Dodgers Stadium in November.

John's husband David Furnish will co-direct the project with RJ Cutler, who notably helmed the Apple TV+ Billie Eilish documentary The World's A Little Blurry. Along with the focus on the star's farewell tour, it will also feature never-before-shared archival footage from his career and life through the years. There will also be new videos from various performances and interviews! In a statement, Disney CEO Bob Chapek called John "simply unrivaled," mentioning the impact of his musical contributions to The Lion King.

Also interesting:

"Like a good Disney story, Elton’s music has both universal appeal and the ability to connect with audiences on a deeply personal level," Chapek continued. While the upcoming documentary will be released on Disney+, there are also reportedly plans to give it a limited theatrical release and see it screened at film festivals. We look forward to seeing the singer like never before when Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is released!
