The 39-year-old Newlyweds star Jessica Simpson opened up about her battle with addiction and how she was sexually abused in her new memoir Open Book. According to People, the also singer revealed how she started to use alcohol and stimulants to numb the pain of being abused when she was little: "I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills."

In her new book, the star opened up about the sexual abuse she suffered at the age of six, "when I shared a bed with the daughter of a family friend. It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable. I wanted to tell my parents. I was the victim but somehow I felt in the wrong."

Jessica decided to tell her parents about it when she was 12. Then she never stayed at her parents' friend house again; she and her family never mentioned the abuse again.

The reality television star got sober in November 2017, she hasn't had a drink since then. "Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb," she said. Then she added "I need to stop. Something’s got to stop. And if it’s the alcohol that’s doing this, and making things worse, then I quit."

Jessica Simpson got married to American former football player Eric Johnson in 2014. They share two daughters, Maxwell and Birdie, and one son, Ace.
