John Barrowman on Doctor Who would start in 2005 when he was cast as "Captain Jack Harkness", a pansexual time traveler, in BBC's relaunch of the popular sci-fi series.

"Jack" may start off as timid, and it is unclear whether he is a good or bad force at first, but as the series developed "Jack" did as well and became close to the season's "Ninth Doctor" played by Christopher Eccelston.

Barrowman would also reprise his role as "Jack" in the Doctor Who spin-off series, Torchwood
