John Legend and Alicia Keys will be duking it out on the keys very soon! As People has shared, the two musicians are the latest to partake in Verzuz, an Instagram Live series that sees artists facing off against one another in "beat battles."

Legend says piano battle with Keys was in the works for a while

Legend and Keys' piano duel will be a special edition of Verzuz in celebration of Juneteenth, taking place on Friday, June 19 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. And according to People, Legend— whose new studio album Bigger Love drops on the same day— first told Nick Cannon back in May that he'd be up for the matchup!

"What I do love about the way it's been going so far is we're seeing producers and writers, more than just artists," Legend said of Verzuz. "Because the producers and writers, what's so cool about it, is you didn't maybe know they produced this song, or know they were behind that.

"For us, for me and Alicia, you know it's our song, because we are the front person for them, we were on the radio singing them."

Verzuz has been ongoing since March, after the series kicked things off by pitting Timbaland against Swiss Beatz. Some of the other musical matchups that have taken place on the Instagram Live show include T-Pain vs. Lil Jon, Ludacris vs. Nelly, and, most recently, Kirk Franklin vs. Fred Hammond.
