Some of Swift's most public relationships involved men like Jake Gyllenhaal, or John Mayer, and after they broke up, Taylor's fans were mercilessly critical of her past lovers, blaming all of Taylor's problems on her ex-men. But now, with the re-release of her biggest songs some ten years later, it seems that fans are more than happy to dig up old wounds, and come after Taylor's ex-partners yet again.

Jake Gyllenhaal has already felt the brunt of her fans' anger once again on social media, but simply brushed it off according to sources close to the actor. But this week, a 15-year-old "Swifty" personally messaged singer John Mayer on his Instagram account, with a less than friendly message...

John Mayer Responds To Death Threats

The first bit of text read: "F-k you, you ugly bitch I hope you choke on something," followed by "answer me you bitch."

Mayer responded directly with a classier message:

“Hi Alondra, it’s John - I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple of days. I decided to choose your message at random to reply to. You can feel free to screen shot, share in any way you like if you want. I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?”

The Instagram user sent the singer a 30-second audio recording saying that they don’t hope he dies. “It’s okay. I wanted to understand,” Mayer answered. “So it’s a fun thing people are doing without taking into account that I might see it and be affected by it?”

The response: “Nobody really thought you would see it or answer since you are famous and don’t interact with random people” said the user. Mayer simply took it in stride telling her it was “100 percent okay” and asking her to “go forth and live happy and healthy.”

For many, this story could be a marker for where we are in society and how social media can affect our behavior for the worse. This is the second time this week that Swift's most fervent followers have been reportedly harassing her exes online.

Hopefully, Swift herself can address the controversy soon, so that such things are never repeated again...but with Taylor's fans, you never really know what can happen!
