Back in the day, Matt Lucas found the love of his life: TV producer Kevin McGee. After being together for a few years, they got married in 2006 in a pantomime-themed ceremony in London, including the attendance of Elton John and Courtney Love.
Sadly, two years after getting married, Matt Lucas and Kevin McGee announced their split in June 2008. Nobody thought Kevin would pass away just a couple of months later.

In October 2009, Kevin McGee was found at his home in Edinburgh's Bruntsfield district after posting a suicide note on Facebook: "Kevin McGee thinks that death is much better than life." He had reportedly been struggling with depression and was found hanging at the age of 32.
Matt Lucas was "utterly destroyed" by the devastating news; his Little Britain co-star David Walliams was with him at his home to comfort him. Both were set to make a guest appearance at an awards ceremony but Lucas did not show up.

Matt Lucas' life has been very difficult since his ex-husband's death. Fortunately, the English actor has been able to get through Kevin's heartbreaking suicide and honours him every chance he gets. "I loved him more than anyone I’ve ever met, and still do," posted Lucas on Instagram.
