Mickey Rourke was considered a real heartthrob at the beginning of his acting career. In films such as Diner and 9 ½ Weeks, he won the hearts of numerous fans.

But today he looks quite different. Rourke had many cosmetic surgeries and unfortunately not all went as planned.

The reason for the surgical procedures was Mickey Rourke's passion for boxing. His face suffered from the many blows he took during his boxing career.

Mickey commented on his operations to MailOnline: "Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing."

"I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone," he said. "But I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together."

In one of his most painful surgeries, Mickey Rourke had cartilage removed from his ear to rebuild his nose.

Rourke's altered appearance led to less work in Hollywood for the once popular actor. But in 2008, he enjoyed renewed success with the film The Wrestler. He was honoured with the Golden Globe for Best Actor and an Oscar nomination.
