From an early age Brown spent most of his time alone. Young James was arrested aged 15, for robbery, tried as an adult and received an eight- to 16-year sentence in Georgia. But he turned it around. Before becoming a legendary figure in the world of soul and funk, Brown started singing in the church choir as a gospel performer in his hometown.
