Samuel Frederick Smith was born in London, England on May 19, 1992. They attended St Mary's Catholic School while honing their singing and songwriting skills with a jazz pianist. Smith broke into the industry with features on Disclosure's song "Latch" in 2012 and Naughty Boy's "La La La" in 2013.

Fans got a taste of Smith's own musical stylings later that year, when the singer released their debut single "Lay Me Down". Smith's first album 'In the Lonely Hour' dropped in 2014.
