In the tribute, Ford's affection for his late friend shines through. "He was my father…not in life…but in Indy 3," Ford said to Variety.

"You don't know pleasure until someone pays you to take Sean Connery for a ride in the side car of a Russian motorcycle bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm," he continued. "God, we had fun — if he's in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend."

For playing "Dr. Henry Jones," Connery earned BAFTA and Golden Globe Award nominations in 1989. It was later rumoured that he would come out of retirement to reprise the role in 2007's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but, at the time, Connery announced: "Retirement is just too much damned fun."

Since Connery's passing, his widow, Micheline Roquebrune, has spoken on his struggle with dementia. "It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away," she said. May he rest in peace.
