After graduating from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1984, Steve Carell moved to Chicago and joined the improvisational troupe 'Second City' in 1989. He made his film debut two years later in 'Curly Sue'. Carell continued to build his career with roles in both film and television, including multiple roles on the sitcom 'The Dana Carvey Show' (1996), where he also contributed as a writer.

Directed by Judd Apatow, the film was a critical and commercial success, blending crude humor with heartfelt moments. Carell's success continued with the dark comedy 'Little Miss Sunshine' (2006), where he played a suicidal scholar.

In 2005, Steve Carell left 'The Daily Show' to take on the lead role in the American version of 'The Office', originally created by Ricky Gervais in the UK. The show, filmed in a mockumentary style, focused on the day-to-day lives of employees at the Dunder Mifflin paper company. Carell's role as "Michael Scott", the clueless and socially awkward manager, brought him critical acclaim, including several Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe in 2006. Carell's departure from 'The Office' in 2011 was met with much fanfare, marking the end of an unforgettable chapter in TV history.

In 'Crazy, Stupid, Love'. (2011), Steve Carell played a man dealing with divorce. In 2013, he was a flashy magician in 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone', an overbearing dad in 'The Way Way Back', and returned as "Brick Tamland" in 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues'.

He returned to the role in three sequels ('Despicable Me 2' in 2013, 'Despicable Me 3' in 2017, and 'Despicable Me 4' in 2024) and voiced a young "Gru" in 'Minions' (2015) and 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' (2022).
