The singer for the iconic rock band Fleetwood Mac is opening up about her choice to get an abortion during the early days of the band. Stevie Nicks is getting candid about her emotional journey.
In her latest interview with The Guardian, the icon opened up about what prompted her to make that choice and revealed that she still has no regrets.
"If I had not had that abortion, I’m pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac," she said to the outlet. "There’s just no way that I could have had a child then, working as hard as we worked constantly. And there were a lot of drugs, I was doing a lot of drugs … I would have had to walk away."

Nicks then opened up about why she felt her band was so important, adding that not only did their music "make people happy," but the fact the band had two women was unusual for the time.
"There’s not another band in the world that has two lead women singers, two lead women writers. That was my world’s mission," she said.

Nicks then touched on the current political climate, saying that sharing this intimate part of her life is a way to support women everywhere.
She said that she's concerned about the current outlook for the Supreme Court, adding that the landmark Roe v. Wade could be overturned.
"Abortion rights, that was really my generation’s fight," she said. "If President Trump wins this election and puts the judge he wants in, she will absolutely outlaw it and push women back into back-alley abortions."

In another interview with Variety last week, Nicks also touched on the political climate of 2020, adding that she's seen it all.
"Racism in the last four years is so much worse than it was. I’m 72 years old. I lived through the ‘60s. I’ve seen all this. I fought for Roe vs. Wade; that was my generation’s fight," she said.
"I don’t want to live in a country that is so divisive. I go, like, well, if this starts over and there’s another four years of this, then I’m going — but we’re not welcome anywhere," she added.
Nicks has been very vocal about her support of women's right to choose, and continues to be an advocate for women's rights through music, which she says inspired her latest single, "Show Them the Way."
"I hope that this song and its words will be seen as a prayer — a prayer for our country, and a prayer for the world. It’s a pretty heavy song. And I think it’s just a spectacular song," she said.
