The nominations for this year's Tony Awards have officially been announced! As Entertainment Tonight shares, Tony Award-winning actor James Monroe Iglehart delivered the news on Thursday, revealing the musicals and plays that are up in some major categories. Because the coronavirus pandemic caused Broadway to shut down earlier this year, the nomination period only ran until February 19.
This decision also caused the theatre awards to be postponed to an undetermined date, while leaving only a total of only 18 shows as contenders. The Alanis Morissette jukebox musical Jagged Little Pill is this year's frontrunner, receiving a total of 15 nominations! When it comes to plays, Slave Play leads with 12 awards. There are also some big-name actors who received nods, including Audra McDonald, Laura Linney, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
