Thom Bierdz was one of the most popular young actors in the legendary soap opera The Young and the Restless during the 1980s where he portrayed "Phillipp", but he actually decided to leave the show in order to pursue other interests but also under suspicious circumstances after faking his own death, moving to Australia and changing his name. So what exactly happened and where is he now?

Thom Bierdz experienced really hard episodes in his personal life

Some might argue that Thom Bierdz left The Young and the Restless due to a couple of extreme situations that happened in his personal life; his brother Troy murdered their mother a couple of years ago (he is now serving a life sentence in a Wisconsin prison and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia), and later on, his other brother Gregg committed suicide. We are sure that the actor had to take his time to put the pieces of his life back together.

Thom Bierdz has one sister and has rediscovered himself through painting. He has actually received several awards for his artwork! The actor has also been an active philanthropist; he is president of the American Art Awards, an organization that helps get artists discovered and introduced to galleries. In 2009, The Human Rights Campaign presented him with the Visibility Award for his continued contributions to charity work for human rights.

Thom is now 58-years-old and seems to be doing quite well. We still love watching him in re-runs on the small screen!
