Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released in June 2020 and Tom Cruise was asked to play his legendary character "Pete Maverick" again. However, his former co-star Kelly McGillis who portrayed "Charlie" in the original production, was not invited to be part of the sequel and she is actually handling it very well!
"I look age-appropriate for what my age is": Top Gun star Kelly McGillis
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Golden Globe nominee said that she is not surprised about the fact that she was not asked to be part of the upcoming film: "I’m old and I’m fat and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about. I’d much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff."
McGillis wished the best to actress Jennifer Connelly who this time will be playing the role of "Charlie." McGillis also revealed that she has not yet seen the Top Gun: Maverick trailer and that although she has spoken with a couple of people from the original production she is actually not in touch with them.
