With Top Gun: Maverick set to be released on June 26, Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have now revealed some more details about shooting the sequel 34 years in the making. And it sounds as if Cruise was really feeling that "need for speed" again!

Cruise told Empire that when he first talked about a new Top Gun movie with his long-time producing partner Bruckheimer, he actually had a couple of demands before he signed on to the project.

Tom Cruise: "I'm not going to do the CGI stuff"

Cruise wanted to make the sequel to the 1986 classic as real and authentic as possible: "We just started talking," he says. "And I realized that there were things that we could accomplish cinematically. And I started getting excited about this big challenge of, 'How do we do it?' So I said to Jerry, 'I'll do it if…' meaning, I'm not going to do the CGI stuff."

And the first trailers really show how much Cruise and Bruckheimer leaned on the actors and how much more physicality was involved in the shooting of the new movie.

Jerry Bruckheimer: "They all threw up"

"What's different about this movie is that [in Top Gun] we put the actors in the F-14s and we couldn't use one frame of it, except some stuff on Tom, because they all threw up," says Bruckheimer, laughing.

"It's hysterical to see their eyes roll back in their heads. So everything was done on a gimbal. But in this movie, Tom wanted to make sure the actors could actually be in the F-18s."

And Cruise let the studio know of his ambitious plans beforehand: "I said to the studio, 'You don't know how hard this movie's going to be. No-one's ever done this before,'" the star laughs. "There's never been an aerial sequence shot this way. I don't know if there ever will be again, to be honest."
