Julia Roberts is making headlines as she makes her long-awaited comeback to the world of romantic comedies! As Deadline shares, Roberts recently told the New York Times Magazine why it's taken her decades to do a new one, and why she's breaking that streak with her upcoming movie Ticket to Paradise.

Roberts says she wouldn't do the movie without Clooney

Roberts told the outlet that her break from rom-coms didn't mean she wasn't interested in the genre. Instead, she just hadn't found a script that excited her in some time! "If I had read something that I thought was that Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of madcap fun, I would do it," Roberts explained. She said that the script from Ticket to Paradise caught her attention, but she had one condition.

The actress revealed that after reading the script, she instantly had a specific co-star in mind. She reflected on thinking how "this only works if it’s George Clooney." As it turns out, Clooney felt the same way about Roberts being in it, which meant that she was game! "Somehow we were both able to do it, and off we went," she said of working on the film.

"I love to laugh and be funny," Roberts said of doing a comedic film again, calling it "a joy to play in that sandbox." Ticket to Paradise was announced last year, and the film, which also stars Kaitlyn Dever, is expected to be released this October. and Roberts and Clooney have been in several films together over the years, which makes their upcoming on-screen reunion exciting for fans of both stars!
