This year, the world got to know the name of Canadian actor and director Sarah Polley. Polley won her first ever Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, thanks to the hit film Women Talking. Outside of the critical acclaim the film received, Sarah herself was also highly applauded.

Her speech was given a standing ovation after she picked up her award. "First of all, I want to thank the academy for not being mortally offended by the words 'women' and 'talking' so close together like that — cheers," Sarah said.
