On TV, Hesseman is also remembered for playing teacher "Charlie Moore" on ABC's Head of the Class. He had another recurring role on One Day at a Time.

The star later reprised his WKRP role in 10 episodes of the revival series in the '90s.

Hesseman had parts in dozens of films, including Police Academy 2, This Is Spinal Tap, and About Schmidt, to name just a few.

He is survived by his wife Caroline. They had been married since 1989.

Sadly, Hesseman's death follows that of WKRP cast member Frank Bonner, who passed away in June last year.
