Ne-Yo and his wife, Crystal Renay Smith, are back together after almost calling it quits earlier this year. The now 41-year-old "Closer" singer first met his wife back in 2015 after having risen to worldwide fame.
Born October 18, 1979, as Shaffer Chimere Smith, Ne-Yo grew up in a musically inclined household with both of his parents working as musicians. The singer would start going by his stage name of Ne-Yo in the early 2000s when his then producer described the singer as seeing music like "Neo" sees things in The Matrix.
Ne-Yo wouldn't meet his wife until well into his career. By the mid-2000s, Ne-Yo was a billboard name having achieved his breakthrough after penning American singer Mario's hit single "Let Me Love You". Ne-Yo's own hit songs include:
- "So Sick", which made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100
- "Sexy Love"
- "Closer", nominated for a Grammy Award
- "Miss Independent", also nominated for a Grammy
- "Beautiful Monster"
- "Give Me Everything" (feat. Pitbull and Nayer), which also made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100
- "Tonight" with Jessica Sanchez
Before meeting his wife, Crystal, Ne-Yo was in two high profile relationships with Jessica White and Monyetta Shaw. Ne-Yo and White made the headlines after discovering that the child White gave birth to was not his. However, Ne-Yo does share two children with his ex-girlfriend Monyetta: daughter Madilyn and son Mason.
Ne-Yo and Crystal Renay Smith
Ne-Yo met the woman of his dreams, reality TV star Crystal Renay in 2015 at a business meeting, and the pair would marry the following year! The couple now has two sons together, Shaffer Jr. (4) and Roman (2).
Despite a rough patch earlier this year, quarantine appears to have made Ne-Yo and Crystal stronger, and by June they announced they were getting back together! We wish the singer a happy 41st birthday and many years of happiness still to come with Ne-Yo's beautiful wife Crystal!
