Procol Harum frontman Gary Brooker has passed away. The band's official website announced the sad news. Brooker died of cancer on Feb. 19. He was 76.

The announcement from Procol Harum reads: "With the deepest regret we must announce the death on 19 February 2022 of Gary Brooker MBE, singer, pianist and composer of Procol Harum, and a brightly-shining, irreplaceable light in the music industry."

Brooker was born in London in 1945 and founded Procol in 1967. That year, the rockers released "A Whiter Shade of Pale," their biggest hit and a defining track of the '60s.

In 2003, Brooker received a prestigious MBE honour from Queen Elizabeth II for his admirable charity work. 

Procol Harum had still been active to this day, and the band additionally wrote of their late singer: "Gary's voice and piano were the single defining constant of Procol's fifty-year international concert career."

Brooker had been getting treatment for cancer, but the announcement of his passing noted he died at his home in London. He will be missed.
