Eddie Van Halen's Ex-Wife Valerie Bertinelli Pays Tribute

Rock 'n roll legend Eddie Van Halen is being mourned all across the world. He passed far too early at the age of 65 due to his longtime battle with throat cancer. Eddie's ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli has now posted her own tribute to the father of her son Wolfgang and their 20-year marriage and even longer friendship.

Valerie originally reposted her son's announcement of Eddie's passing that read, "I can't believe I'm having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don't think I'll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop."

After reeling from the initial shock, she came to write her own tribute saying, "40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang. Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin. I'm so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love."

Valerie and Eddie married in 1981, had their son Wolfgang in 1991, and separated in 2001 but remained close friends and amicable ever since. She even quickly came to his defense when Van Halen had to postpone a few tour dates and many speculated Eddie had relapsed and was in rehab. She publicly shamed the speculators and declared his sobriety ongoing and proudly supported him.
