Yukihiro Takahashi, the Japanese musician best known from Yellow Magic Orchestra, has died at the age of 70. 

According to The Japan Times, the musician passed away after battling pneumonia. Recently, Takahashi had also received treatment for a brain tumour.

Remembering Yukihiro Takahashi (1952-2023)

Yukihiro Takahashi enjoyed a long career in Japan's music scene. He was first a member of the rock group Sadistic Mika Band, before forming Yellow Magic Orchestra in 1978. 

In YMO, Takahashi was drummer and lead vocalist alongside music icons Ryuichi Sakamoto and Haruomi Hosono. The legendary group released eight albums from 1978 to 1993.

Yellow Magic Orchestra is regarded as a pioneer of electronic pop music. Their hits include the early "Firecracker" and "Computer Game," and the pop single "Kimi ni mune kyun."

Outside of YMO, Takahashi had an extensive solo catalogue and produced many successful albums. His other bands included The Beatniks, Sketch Show, and METAFIVE.

Takahashi sadly announced his brain tumour diagnosis in 2020. He passed away from pneumonia on Jan. 11, 2023...
