2022 was a year of change in the British Royal Family. And as you may recall, things got emotional at times. 

We're looking back at the year that was for the royals. Here are five of the most emotional moments from 2022. (See the video above for pictures!)

Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee send-off: 2022 started out as a big year for Queen Elizabeth II. It was her 70th year on the throne, and the royals celebrated with Platinum Jubilee festivities.

Due to health concerns, however, the Queen sadly missed much of the event. But she did make an emotional final appearance at the finale. Beside her family, she greeted the surprised crowd from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Queen Elizabeth II passes away: After a 70-year reign and at 96 years of age, Queen Elizabeth II died surrounded by family on Sept. 8, 2022. The world mourned along with the British people, who lost their popular and long-serving Queen.

King Charles III takes over: Just one day after the death of the Queen, her son addressed the nation as King. He took the throne as King Charles III and delivered an emotional speech through "feelings of profound sorrow."

Year in review: Saying goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II

Royals mourn the Queen: In the days after the Queen died, the Royal Family joined the groups of mourners outside the Palace. Tearful royals were seen greeting the public and viewing memorial sites. 

Here too there was a surprise reunion of the feuding brothers Prince William and Prince Harry with their spouses Kate and Meghan.

A final goodbye to the Queen: The funeral for Queen Elizabeth II ran just under two weeks after her death in September. The royals organized an honourable ceremony for the beloved late monarch. 

It also saw Prince Harry united with his family in memory of the late Queen. Queen Elizabeth was buried that day next to her late husband Prince Philip, her parents, and her sister Princess Margaret.
