Bette Midler and Jameela Jamil are standing up for Meghan Markle on Twitter! As People reports, Meghan has become more politically outspoken since moving to the United States, and comments she made at a recent event have garnered criticism from broadcaster Piers Morgan.

Meghan criticized by Morgan after she talks about voting

Meghan has been vocal about the importance of voting in the 2020 U.S. election as of late, encouraging people to exercise their democratic right. She even appeared at a virtual event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, a historic milestone that gave women the right to vote! However, the Duchess of Sussex's political remarks at the event caused Morgan to take to Twitter complaining about her behaviour.

"The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles," he tweeted. "They can’t remain as royals & spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way." Actress Bette Midler then replied to Morgan's tweet, making her own feelings on the topic clear as she spoke out in Meghan's defense. "Oh, f— off," she said

Meghan referred to as "smart, strong, opinionated" by Jamil

Meghan also received support from actress and advocate Jameela Jamil, who defended her outspokenness about U.S. politics while referencing Prince Andrew's involvement in the Epstein scandal. "I *THINK* they may be more embarrassed by their alleged resident pedo Andrew who was besties with a sex trafficker," Jamil tweeted, "than an American supporting women voting in her own country, and loosely referencing the importance of general democracy which is being threatened here currently."

Jamil then responded to a Twitter user who questioned why Meghan has been so hated, explaining that many people are threatened by her. "Because she’s not white. And because she’s smart, strong, opinionated, rebellious, beautiful, happy and has everything they never will," Jamil said. "She’s a terrifying threat to patriarchy because she doesn’t fit the stereotype for women. They discredit her because they can’t kill her."

Meghan and Prince Harry recently participated in a video call from their new home in Santa Barbara where they talked about creating a more positive online experience. Even though the Duchess of Sussex has often ended up being negatively talked about on social media, it's good to see that celebrities like Bette Midler and Jameela Jamil have her back!
