Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to return to Britain in July with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking the children’s first trip to the country since 2022. The visit is tied to Harry’s scheduled appearances around the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. According to People, fresh attention has turned to Althorp House, Princess Diana’s ancestral home, after the estate listed closures on July 10 and 11. The timing has fueled talk that the Sussex family could visit, or possibly stay, at the Spencer property.

Althorp House Draws Focus Before July Visit

Althorp sits about an hour from Birmingham and carries major personal significance for Harry. The estate was Princess Diana’s childhood home, and it is also where she is buried. A family stop there would come just after what would have been Diana’s July 1 birthday, adding another layer to the timing. Harry has stayed at Althorp before during U.K. visits, including in August 2024 when he traveled back for the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes. The house is owned by his uncle, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer.

King Charles Offers Royal Estate Accommodation

The possible Althorp stay comes alongside another option. King Charles has offered Harry, Meghan and their children accommodation on a royal estate during the trip, but no response has been received so far. The King previously made similar offers, including a stay at Buckingham Palace, which Harry declined on earlier visits. Any lodging choice could be shaped by the long-running security issue around the Sussex family’s time in Britain. That question has remained central ever since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

Prince Harry Links U.K. Visits to Family Safety

Security remains a major factor in whether the family can spend time in Britain together. In a statement to London’s High Court in 2023, Harry said, "The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States," Harry said according to People. He added, "That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil." He has repeatedly argued that protection decisions affect his ability to bring Meghan and the children back.

Meghan Markle and the Children Last Visited in 2022

Harry and Meghan have brought Archie and Lilibet to Britain only once since leaving royal life, during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. The children did not appear at public events during that trip. Later that year, the couple were already in England for charity engagements when the Queen died, extending their stay to attend funeral events. As reported by People, no reunion between Harry and King Charles has been confirmed for the coming visit, though the pair did meet privately in September 2025 for a 55-minute conversation in London.
