John Oliver had a feeling that Meghan Markle would find it difficult to be a member of the royal family before she even joined it! This week, an old interview where Oliver discussed Meghan's decision to enter into the British monarchy went viral, seeing as the talk show host had correctly predicted her struggles.

Oliver voiced his concerns about the royal family

Oliver made the comments back when he appeared on Late Night with Stephen Colbert back in 2018— before Meghan and Prince Harry had even gotten married! "I would not blame her if she pulled out of this at the last minute," he said of Meghan's impending nuptials a few months before they took place.

The host of Last Week Tonight then voiced his opinion that Meghan "might be marrying into a family that could cause her some emotional complications." He made it clear that he views the royal family in a less than favourable light, calling them "an emotionally stunted group of fundamentally flawed people doing a very silly, pseudo job."

Oliver said being a royal was "going to be weird" for Meghan

Oliver went on to say that he thought marrying into the monarchy was "going to be weird" for Meghan, and talked about why he would never want to be in her position! "I would not marry into the royal family. I'm a commoner," he explained. "I would not be welcome, especially after what I've just said."

The interview segment is making the rounds online just days after Meghan and Harry's shocking tell-all interview with Oprah, which saw the couple speak out for the first time since stepping back from the royal family. As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Meghan said in the special that she had no idea what to expect when she married into the royal life. Perhaps if she had seen Oliver's interview, that would have changed things!
