• Prince Charles became King after the death of the Queen
  • That is why, as a British monarch, he will not live in Buckingham Palace

Exciting times are ahead for Charles (73): The death of his mother, the Queen, means he was officially proclaimed King. He currently lives with his second wife Camilla, the "Queen Consort"(75), still in Clarence House, a smaller building on the grounds of St. James Palace not far from Buckingham Palace.

But traditionally, as the British head of state, he would now have to move. But he does not like the idea of having to move to Buckingham Palace at all, according to the British newspaper Hello! in a report from 2021.

King Charles III finds Buckingham Palace impractical

King Charles III doesn't think Buckingham Palace is a suitable place to live. As a source told Hello!, Charles believes the maintenance is not sustainable, especially when considering the environment and costs.

Instead, he reportedly wants to open the palace to visitors and have it remodeled as a museum about his mother's reign. Queen Victoria was the first British monarch who lived in Buckingham Palace.
