What a year it has been for Queen Elizabeth II (95). Her husband Prince Philip first died at the age of 99, now the monarch has to endure another close loss. Her long-time friend and employee Ann Fortune FitzRoy, Duchess of Grafton, passed away on December 3rd, according to the Daily Mail

A tragic loss for Queen Elizabeth II

The Duchess was a proud 101 years old and was one of the Queen's best friends. As Mistress of the Robes, she was the highest female employee of the royal family and was responsible for organizations related to the royal household. 

Ann Fortune FitzRoy worked for the Royals since Queen Elizabeth's coronation - for an incredible 69 years. The two women valued their friendship very much and she was even given the title of Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. 

The honor, which was bestowed upon her for extraordinary services to the monarch, was given to Ann Fortune FitzRoy in 1980. In addition, the Queen is the godmother of the daughter of her employee. Even at official events, Ann Fortune was often present and was allowed to wear fine jewelry like a tiara.
