Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are teaming up with young activist Malala Yousafzai for their next virtual event! As Hello! reports, the couple will be involved in an online conversation celebrating the International Day of the Girl, an annual observance that focuses on championing girls and women all over the world.
Harry and Meghan to chat about girls' education with Yousafzai
Harry and Meghan are set to have their virtual discussion with Nobel Peace Prize winner Yousafzai on Sunday, October 8 at 4 PM ET. The event was announced by Yousafzai's non-profit organization, the Malala Fund, and will take place virtually, being streamed live through YouTube. And as Hello! mentions, it will primarily be focusing on a very important topic— girls' education!
While the event isn't for a few more days, the Malala Fund has already shared some information about what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's discussion with Yousafzai will cover. "They’ll discuss the barriers preventing 130 million girls from going to school and why it’s essential that we champion every girl’s right to learn," the organization wrote in the official video description.
Harry and Meghan have appeared in several virtual events
Harry and Meghan have participated in several livestream events during quarantine to help bring awareness to important issues, particularly ones involving youth. In August, they made their first video call from their new home in Santa Barbara as they spoke with young leaders from the Queen's Commonwealth Trust about creating a positive online environment.
Meghan took part in a virtual event that celebrated the 19th Amendment the same month, having become more politically active since she moved back to the United States! The Duchess of Sussex also recently spoke at a digital summit, where she advocated for online kindness. And as Hello! mentions, Meghan is a strong proponent of women's education, selecting royal patronages tied to the cause such as Smart Works and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
