Prince William invited his old pal football superstar, David Beckham, and a few others to take part in a charity to spread awareness about the importance of mental health. During a video chat speaking about the charity, David and many others spoke very candidly about their own battles with mental health and how the world has changed.

Prince William Teams Up With David Beckham and Other Football Stars To Talk Mental Health Awareness

The Duke of Cambridge invited his longtime friend David Beckham and football stars Steph Houghton, Tyrone Mings, and a few others to take part in his Heads Together charity to bring awareness to the importance of mental health. He has announced the commitment to make mental health a key priority in football players and asked his friends to speak about their own experiences and how they believe the stigma surrounding mental health has changed.

Handsome David Beckham was the most well dressed in the video chat in a full suit which spurred the Prince to say "I should have put a jacket on for you, David." David responded with "I know, I'm slightly overdressed sorry." The big-hearted soccer player opened up about how lucky he was to have his former teammates and wife during his most difficult times.

Beckham said "I made a mistake in ‘98 and the reaction at the time was pretty brutal… If social media was around when I was going through that time, it would have been a whole different story. But I was lucky, I had a support system... But did I feel it was OK at the time to go to someone and say I need help? No, because it was a different era, and I just felt that I had to keep it all in and deal with it myself. Whereas now I’m the one preaching to my kids and to other kids that I talk to out there that it’s really important to talk."

He also made the well-said point of "It's OK to not be OK and it's OK to say that. It's OK to come out and say, 'I need help.'" Prince William was incredibly sympathetic considering how open he is about his own struggles with mental health and the pressures that come with being constantly criticized. He even told his friends "I really hope you guys feel this but the tide is turning on mental health and we are making progress."

The group is announcing the brand new initiative The Mentally Healthy Football Declaration that states that all of the football leagues in the U.K. will make mental health a main priority. Prince William hopes that this initiative will inspire the soccer fans struggling with their own mental health to seek help.
