• 'Castle' was a hit show for years
  • It was cancelled for a few reasons
  • THIS contributed to the sudden end

'Castle', starring Nathan Fillion as "Richard Castle", is an absolute classic. From 2009 to 2016, the titular protagonist battled crime in New York as an author alongside the police detective "Kate Beckett" (Stana Katic) and together they gained a large fan base.

'Castle': The end of the successful series

However, the series was abruptly canceled after the eighth season. One of the possible reasons for the end of the series was the falling ratings. For a ninth season, they would have dealt with a lower production budget, shorter episodes and a smaller main cast.

A few reasons for the surprising ending

Also, "Beckett" actress Stana Katic and series regular Tamala Jones had not been willing to renew their roles beyond season 8, while Nathan Fillion and other main cast members signed on for one more season.

The problem would have been that 'Castle' was largely focused on the relationship between "Richard Castle" and "Kate Beckett". For the fans, a recasting would certainly be a no-go.

The controversy surrounding the supposedly negative relationship between the main characters contributed to the suffering, and ultimately the end, of the series. Nathan Fillion currently stars in 'The Rookie' as "Officer Nolan", and has remained loyal to the crime genre even after the end of 'Castle'.
