Chadwick Boseman earns much praise
Chadwick Boseman's last film, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, has earned much praise in the film industry. Despite not being out yet until December 18, critics are calling for the Academy to acknowledge Boseman for his incredible acting chops in the film.
The Netflix original will be Boseman's last work following his passing to cancer in August of 2020, alongside Oscar winner, Viola Davis.
The film, which is based on a play written in 1982, follows "Ma Rainey", played by Davis, and her experience in 1927 as a jazz musician, and the racial tensions that the music world has endured as white producers profit off of their Black employees.
In the film, Boseman plays "Levee", a troubled trumpet player who is striving to make his own in the music industry.
Film critics are saying his role could earn him a posthumous Oscar, with one critic saying, "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom gives us an outstanding turn from Viola Davis but it’s Chadwick Boseman that leaves it all out on the floor in a stellar, Sidney Poitier-level, Oscar-worthy performance."
